KKCD was formed in 1997 by group of people headed by Dr Sundaresh Heragu and supported by many kannadigas in the capital region. Mythili Murthy, Ravi Pilar, Jayanth Kumar being the biggest supporters and senior members of KKCD.

KKCD's mission is to strengthen the Kannada community of Tricity area of New York(Albany, Troy & Schenectady) by providing a forum to pursue cultural, educational and community development. It is a voluntary organization primarily run by donations and memberships from interested members of the general public. KannadaKoota has a long way in achieving its objectives and in expanding its activities to new horizons.
